The Care for Colorado Coalition— launched in 2020 by the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) and Leave No Trace—is a statewide alliance of state/federal, agencies, local governments, non profit organizations and businesses committed to protecting Colorado’s environmental and cultural resources by inspiring responsible travel and empowering everyone to be active stewards of our communities and outdoor spaces.. By becoming Coalition Partner, organizations gain access to marketing assets, communications support, and educational resources and toolkits to implement strategies that guide and positively influence visitor behavior. i Partners also benefit from onboarding sessions, networking opportunities through quarterly meetings, a monthly newsletter, and customized workshops—all designed to make it easy to educate and inspire visitors and residents to “Do Colorado Right.” Click here to complete an application form and join the Coalition.

About the Coalition

Founded by the CTO and Leave No Trace in 2020, the Coalition is now an alliance of more than 200 state and federal agencies, local governments, destinations, and outdoor recreation and tourism businesses. Together, members work to protect Colorado’s environmental and cultural resources by inspiring responsible travel and empowering visitors and residents to be active stewards of our communities and outdoor spaces.

The CTO supports and activates this network by providing resources to implement strategies from the Destination Stewardship Strategic Plan that guide and positively influence traveler behavior.

Who Can Join

The Coalition is open to any tourism or outdoor recreation organization committed to protecting Colorado’s communities and public lands while promoting responsible, respectful visitor experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Federal, state, and local land managers
  • Government entities (local governments and federally recognized tribes)
  • Destination management organizations (DMOs)
  • Lodging tax boards, committees, or panels
  • Chambers of commerce and chamber resort associations
  • Guides and outfitters
  • Tourism businesses
  • Outdoor nonprofit organizations (friends groups, conservation organizations, etc.)
  • Outdoor retailers
  • Statewide or regional tourism industry associations
  • Hospitality providers (hotels, short-term rentals, restaurants, breweries, etc.)
